If the abyss stares back... what will it see in you?

--Shane

I shut the door to my room and wait for the sound of his door closing, it's not long before I hear it. I walk over to my bed in the top right corner of the room and sit on the edge...

"Brother's a dragon... didn't see this coming." I let out a smile at it,  still awsome having a brother as a dragon, but suddenly it seems a lot more dangerous now for him, this world, no matter how much people say they could accept change... they will always fear the new and all that they cannot comprehend, just like if the U.S. turned into a dictatorship overnight there would be riots, and dragons are something many would fear and/or won't comprehend... and some extremely f***ed up things could happen if he just appeared one day as a dragon. The depressing thoughts hit my mind like a hammer to a nail,  driving me into a small depression. I kick off my shoes and try and sleep... after thirty minutes of tossing and turning I give up and get up. After going into the kitchen and grabbing another can of hawaiian punch I head back into my room, grab my laptop sitting on the desk in the top right corner of the room and move it out onto the coffee table.  The welcome screen pops up after about a minute and I type in my password...

"What to do... what to do..." The events of today were still strong in my mind, and I couldn't sleep with them in there... so instead of working on the story for DA I scrap that and write the events of today in story format... who's to say it didn't happen or it did? I see the power bar at red once I finaly finish, and the time read 1:02 AM I save and take it back into my room and put it on the charger, I could post the story in the morning. I hit the pillow and it's lights out in about a minute.

6:37 A.M... Still Shane.

I jerk up out of a dream, breathing heavy, the tail of a dream leaving my memory empty of what I had seen in them... what ever it was scared the living hell out of me because I never woke up like this, even if it was a nightmare. I take a few more heavy breaths before trying to calm down, it didn't work and my nerves where jolting bad... I needed to do something. A quick glance at my phone shows it's 6:18... only five hours? I get up and stretch, getting numerous pops in the process like I always do. I grab a t-shirt that had what looked like a skeletal Slash on the front jamming out on a flying V guitar and a pair of blue jeans. The shower was probably going to wake Max up, but today wasn't exactly a time for sleeping in, considering the circumstances. I enter the bathroom and turn the shower on... after my five-minute shower I head into the kitchen and grab two bowls and fill one with oatmeal and water before microwaving it, once that was done I pull out a pound of sugar and empty about a  cup into it... I bring a whole new meaning to "sweeten to taste" direction, I add a good tap of ground cinnamon and stir.

I was sitting on the couch with the laptop infront of me posting the "Story" I had written when Max comes out of his room sleepily and heads into the bathroom, I bet he was thinking it was all a dream... lucky for him, I didn't have that ability, I always could tell when I was dreaming, mainly because i didn't have vivid dreams. I Hear the shower turn on and chuckle lightly, hold up my hand and count down, 5...4...3...2...1...0...

A muffled shout followed by a thump proved I was right, but he doesn't come out of the bathroom until twenty minutes later, in human form. I keep my eyes focused on the laptop screen as I hear the rustle of cereal being poured into the second bowl. He sits beside me on the couch...

"You know you could have reminded me." he says as he grabs the remote.

"Where is the fun in that? Anyway we've got a busy day ahead of us." He looks at me confusedly for a second before remembering what I said yesterday...

"You were serious about that?"

"Yeah, we get to see what the big, bad dragon can do." I say as I ruffle his hair, he hates that as much as I hate being patted on the back, which is quite alot. I finish my bowl and go and put it into the dishwasher. I go back and sit on the couch while Max finishes his bowl. I just sit there and think on how I would do this, I draw upon the
vast storage of dragon stuff in my head and start coming up with a plan.

"Shane, I know that look on your face... what are you planning?" He was referring to the little smirk that was on my face that I let slip.

"Oh, nothing..." I let out a chuckle "Tell me when your ready."

"I don't think I ever will be with that look on your face." he says as he turns back to his bowl of cereal and the tv. He takes and puts the bowl away before I hear him sigh and ask from the kitchen..

"What are you planning Shane? Because i'm not doing anything until you tell me." Awww, and I thought he would just go with it.

I shut the lid on my laptop, stand and turn towards him before saying "First I'm boing to see if you can resist turning into a dragon when exposed to water, then we will go from there with an endurance and speed test, then see if you have control over water... good enough?"

"Alright, but... do you have anything that could fit if...?"

I shrug and walk into my room, I grab a pair of dark blue shorts with that stretchy waistband, these were large on me so it should fit him in dragon form.
"Here..." I say tossing it to him "We're doing that water thing here so just wait there." I grab a glass from the over-head cabnet and fill it with water.

"Here." I hand him the glass and he looks at it before saying...

"You mean-"

"Drink it, in your room with the shorts on, remember on how you turned human? Focus on that feeling and well whatever you can think of to keep you human." He gets an annoyed look on his face as he shuts his door, I would like having to do this either but certain things needed to be tested. I close my eyes and focus on my hearing, I always had the evesdropping thing set in stone, I wait for about a minute before I hear him grunt. I wait about ten seconds before saying...

"I take it it didn't work?" He opens the door to reveal him in human form...

"No it worked. it was hard though." He steps out with the shorts on,they were pretty loose, he hands me the half-empty glass, which I give a bored look to, then look back at him with the same look...

"What?" I don't answer but just splash the rest of the water in his face.

"HEY!" his face almost immediately jumps out into a muzzle but goes back as he concentrates on being human, it takes only half a second for him to look normal as he wipes the water off his face.

"What was that for!"

"See how fast you would react if somone else did that to you... good enough, just try to expect it."

"You're an ass sometimes you know."

I shrug my shoulders "Need to be sometimes, besides I know most of your friends... one of them would end up doing that to you one day."

"Fine, what's next?"

"You going dragon."

"Here?"

"Yes here." He closes his eyes and he changes, blue scales covering his body as his face larger and taller, his face goes draconic as wings burst from his back... last to appear was the tail, which spiked out from the back of the shorts, damn... was hoping it would just run down along his leg, I hear the bones crack and he turns digigrade and scutes slide out like the scales.
I let a smile out, I couldn't help it... just too awsome.

"Now what is this test you're talking about?"

"Oh, just a one-mile run through the woods."

"You know i have asthma Shane." He says it kinda pissed, he didn't like running, just like I do, but he was right about the asthma part.

"I do, which is why you'll have this if I'm wrong." I hold up his inhaler and he takes it out of my hand, one of his claws nick my hand when he does and I wince. He shoves it in his pocket, where it would probably fall out.

"Come on." We head outside and I ask him...

"Remember that place you were last night?"

"Yeah... you want to head there?"

"Head there? No, I want to race you there. No time limit, just as fast as you can go without killing yourself." He snorts before taking out the inhaler and looking at it.
"Hold this, i'm going to hit you after i have to use it." I take the inhaler and pocket it.

"Ready?" I say to him.

"No."

"You don't have to do this you know." I say as I stand from the running crouch.
He keeps his eyes riveted on the ground for a minute... before looking up and saying "It's fine. On your go?"

I nod, which I know he could see, the way his eyes where spaced farther apart. I stride in a small circle once before popping my neck and getting ready to run.
"3, 2, 1, GO!" And we take off into the woods. He out-distances me in seconds and I have to go full sprint just to keep him in sight... but he started to slow rapidly, until we were even... then he slows and stops, I slide and run back the way I came until I was even with him, he was trying to breathe, hands on his knees.

"Shit, shouldnt've tried this." I say as I dig out the inhaler,he grabs it out of my hand weakly and has to move it almost all the way to the back of his maw before taking heavy draws from it. his breathing seems to get steady again and he just stands there for a minute taking heavy breaths...

"Are yo-" He whirls and slugs me in the chest and I go flying a few feet.

"WHAT DO YOU THINK!" He winces as his own shout hurts his webbed ears, which move close to his head.

"I'm so-" I try to say as I get my breath back, but Max cuts me off...

"NO! Don't say "You're sorry" to me! You knew what would happen if I tried to run... but no! The moment i become a dragon you think I must be in-freaking-vincible, not the person i am Shane!" He gets to mad for words and gives me an evil stare that even sent chills down my spine...

I get up and try to let his anger dissipate... it doesn't and I just felt even worse for trying this in the first place.

"Max..." I remeber the times I had stood up for him, protected him, treating him like he should have been... what have I been thinking? Trying one thing after another to push the limit, see what he could do, and now he had enough of it...
I sit and lean against a tree, staring at the ground. "There is no alternative for sorry Max, I regret trying to push your limts, maybe being a dragon has changed my perception of you... I don't know, but this isn't how I want this to go..." I look at him, most of the anger was gone "If I can't view you in the same light as before, then I shouldn't even try. So for what it's seemingly worth...sorry, and if I ever get like that again let me know or just hit me again." I go back to staring at the ground, he walks over to me and stops in front of me, I see a clawed hand fall into my vision.

"Apology accepted, you somehow manage to make everyone feel pity for you sometimes." I grab the clawed hand and get yanked up on my feet.

"Well, Max... what do you want to do?"

He takes a look over to where we came from "It looks like we are already halfway to that river, why not go the rest of the way?"

I manage a weak smile "Sure." and we head off...

Somewhere of the coast of Ireland during a thunderstorm...

Drajek dives off the rocky cliff into the ocean below, avoiding all the rocks like always, he keeps swimming down, and down, and down until a small area at the ocean floor became clear enough to see through the gloom, he notices the rock blocking the entrance to the place he was headed. He looks stumped for a second before moving both of his hands in a rough scissoring motion, and the sharply making a grabbing motion with both hands crossed over each other... deep rumbling came from behind the massive rock as it began to shift, getting pushed away from the cliff-side by the water he was controlling. The rock stops shifting after a few more feet and even as he tried to move it further it wouldn't budge any farther. He gets an angry look in his eyes before he lets it go and the rock falls back against the rock, he draws both arms back, held wide as water seemed to condense around both arms, several seconds pass before he throws both arms forward and a massive blast of white water rushes at the rock, with a massive rumbling the blast smashes through the rock, leaving only a thin spiderweb of cracks along the entire rock, he then slams both hands together and all the water around the rock rushes at it, going between all the cracks and sending them flying through the water, soon enough the rock no longer existed... leaving a opening a opening a slightly smaller than the rock was.

He swims inside and goes upwards and breaks the surface of the water to reveal a large grotto, a light flares up at the roof of the cavern, reacting to his presence and illuminating the entire grotto for him, the light served as food for most of the plants... which all but the algae died from a lack of. Drajek took this as an even worse sign and the sick feeeling in his gut intensified. He climbs up out of the water and heads through the dead trees... fearing what he will find. As he walks past one tree he spots the overlook, which ran along the entire back of the cavern, and the trees concealed. He begins to run, leaping over several fallen logs and he takes a leaping jump and flies to the overlook... the moment he touches down he has to face exactly what he feared...

The skeleton of a quadroped dragon dominated the space, there where other things but Drajek didn't see them, he fell to his knees in front of the skeleton...

"Ezara..."

He says the dragon's name... and stays silent as memories of her flash through his head... which made his sadness even greater. He moves just a tiny bit, and the light reflects off of something into his eye, drawing his attention. The moment he sees it he jumps to his feet and storms over to it, he was about to kick it out of anger when he sees the words carved into the wall, they were in old english, far too large for a human to have done it. He begins to read the words silently and his eyes begin to widen with each paragraph, the moment he was done he looked back to the object he had sighted earlier...

Back in America...

I walk alongside Shane as we get closer to the river. I honestly think I hit him a little too hard, and got a lot more angry than I should have... he had been silent the entire time we were walking... which isn't unusual for him, but after the way he acted when I yelled at him... he seemed a lot more depressed... and apparently he could read my thoughts because he looked up from the ground and said...

"I'm not depressed Max... just slightly down. And before you say anything, depressed was me back when we were with dad." He still had the to-the-point talking apparently.
We reach the river and he leans against the tree that I had been against the night before "Alright, what do you want to do?"

"How about trying to control water?" He gets a small smile on his face...

"Go ahead, I have no idea how he did it so... give it your best shot."

--->Shane

I watch as Max tries to control water, it was funny... considering nothing was happening. He just stood there making that little motion that the Drajek had done. He started getting frustrated with it and I figured I better try and help out...

"Go into the water."

"What?" I point to the river "Go into the water, try it again." He was hesitant at first, but when he started getting deeper, something changed. He eased up considerably, like the water was calming him... I couldn't see his muzzle but I bet there was a grin on it. He keeps going until he was waist-deep, he just stood there letting the water run through his hands and wings... I start away from the tree when I see the water start to shift, random parts of the water start to lift into the air creating a mist, than ribbons of water... apparently he finaly sees what he's doing because all the water comes crashing down.

"Did you see-"

"That? Yes I did, how did you do it?"

"I don't know! That's the thing."

"Then what did you feel?" He would probably think that an odd question.

"Calm, like... you mean that..."

"Yeah emotion, focus on that calm feeling then try and lift a sphere out of the water." Any bad feelings before where gone as I wait to see if it works.

He focuses and holds out his hand, just barely at first but then ripples started, then I saw the water begin to rise... soon enough a sphere made out of water was balancing on the water, but not going airborne like I thought it would... maybe Drajek didn't bring it into the air before-

My thoughts get silenced as my phone rings with the song "Bite the hand that feeds" by nine-inch nails... my boss is calling, wonderfull. It also shattered Max's tranquility because the sphere splashed back into the river. I take out my phone...

"Yeah?"

"Shane, it's all hands on deck here, so get over here."

"Michael didn't-"

"No he didn't Shane, we're just really busy today for some damn reason." He hangs up and I turn to Max... but before I could say anything...

"I heard, what do I do now?"

"Go home, what else? Oh, and don't fly there."

We start walking back into the woods, but I was streched for time, a mile isn't exactly quick to traverse, so I say goodbye to Max and start a jog off to the house...
Back in Ireland...

Drajek watched as the entrance to the grotto collapsed, him causing it with one hand raised, the other holding a spherical object about two feet in diameter. Tears would have covered his face if he hadn't been underwater, the last bit of rocks rumble down sealing it off from the world again. He swims up to the surface and bursts into the sky, flying towards the mainland... He didn't notice the gray dragon watching him fly off, he had a set of three horns, one on each side of his head and one running along the top, the horns themselves where black in color, the same as the V-shaped scutes, his ears were of the pointed variety. This dragon watches until Drajek goes out of sight before opening a flame-ringed protal in front of him and stepping through it...

Mean while in America...

--->Max

I step into the house, still a dragon and find that Shane had already left, so I head into my room and grab some clothes and go human... still trying to deal with the fact i was a dragon, but I put on the black jeans and the red shirt and head back out into the kitchen... I was hungry.

I walk in to find that Shane had put a note on the kitchen counter...

Was this the second place you went to when you came home?
Also you can bring you friends over etc. Just try and not turn into a dragon infront of them.
With sincere hopes that you won't, Shane

Exactly something I'd expect him to write. I trash the note and find out that he somehow has perception of the future because the house phone rings, and I pick it up to hear Kyle on the other end...

"Hello?"

"Max! How are you doing?"

"Fine, considering what happened yesterday." (And subsequent events) I think to myself.

"About that, you feel like coming over for a while?"

"Your house is halfway across town, how do you expect me to get there?" We lived on the very edge.

"Can't Shane take you?"

"Work called him in, so he isn't here."

"Oh... hey, quick question, was he in one of his scary dark moods when you woke up?" I resist the urge to snort, Shane's extreme angry/depressed mood hasn't happened in over a year... and if you think the woods were bad, you don't know anything.

"No... you lost the bet didn't you?"

"Damn... yes I did, there goes twenty bucks. Anyway I can come over with Jake if it's alright." I look back at the note, I had a bad feeling but still, nothing to do today
so...

"Sure, when can you get here?"

"Give it an hour at most, you know how Jake likes taking his time."

"That he does, see ya." I hang up the phone, well what am I going to do now? I trash the note and as I turn I see The 308. still sitting on the counter... don't want that near Jake, I take it back into his room and set it on the bed, on second thought... I take it and set it on the desk, out of sight of the window, before locking the door and shutting it behind me as I enter the living room. I was still hungry so I head into the kitchen once again to grab a can of that Campbell's chunky soup (Sirloin steak) pour it in a bowl, and nuke it.

Three minutes later I'm sitting on the couch with the tv on, watching a a rerun of survivor. About halfway through I get a tingling in the back of my neck that told me I was being watched, I glance out both windows and see nothing... the feeling didn't go away though, in fact it got worse. I set the empty bowl down and stand, taking a slow look around the house, still seeing nothing... then I remember how Drajek could blend into his surroundings...

"You can show yourself now." I felt stupid saying it, even more so when nothing happens... but about a minute later the feeling goes away... weird. I sit back down to watch the rest of the show, but ten minutes later I hear a car pull up into the driveway. I hear car doors shut and the car leave. I stand by the door waiting for the them, I could hear their muffled voices as they got close to the door, and I open it before they could get a chance to knock. Jake was standing there in tan cargo shorts and a white sleeveless with a canvas bag slung over his shoulder, Kyle stood beside him in jeans and a hollywood undead t-shirt and holding a box of...

"Donuts!"

"Looks like my admission fee's paid." Kyle says with a smirk as he walks in followed by Jake. Kyle sets the box down on the coffee table and says...

"Thought you'd want compensation for not being able to play airsoft yesterday, anyway how are you feeling after a 40 foot drop off a cliff?"

"Not bad, besides the headache I got when I woke up."

"Hopefully the rocks didn't scramble your brain too much... Jake, what's on the to-do list today?" He smiles and unzips his bag, pulling out his xbox "What do you think?"
Thirty minutes and several glazed donuts later I was watching the endgame screen on Call of duty: Black ops after a round in nuketown... I won, which suprised me since I usualy just make second place all the time against Kyle.

"How are you doing it Max? Becaue I don't have a clue how you're beating me." I had been sniping from one of the houses and been pulling headshots off one after another, which was crazy, considering that I wasn't any good at it.

"I honestly don't know, maybe you're getting old?"

"Ha, if i'm getting old, then Jake here is ancient and a zombie, because your sniping is supposed to suck just like your brother's."

"Oi! Call me a zombie again and i start my killing sprees again!"

"Can't do that when I'm skull-capping you, hahaha!"
Kyle speaks up "How do you even snipe in nuketown anyway? Map's supposed to be small."

"Skill, just plain skill." Jake just chuckles at this while Kyle replies with "Yeah right."

"You guys want anything to drink?"

"I'll need a dr.pepper waiter, and an ice-cold pitcher of water for sore loser over here." Jake's response was to shove Kyle over before looking over his shoulder with a grin on his face and saying "What else do you have besides water?"

"Sprite, doctor pepper, and that's about it, Shane's pretty vocal on anyone drinking his hawaiian punch."

"By "vocal" you mean psychotic, right?" says Kyle

"Pretty much."

Jake gets up and follows me into the kitchen and grabs a sprite out of the fridge.

"Sucks that Shane can't be here, killing us all."

"Heh, even he'd probably fall to the mighty sniper."

"Keep telling yourself that, maybe Shane will forget about being a gamer and start running around like a noob."

I look at him as he pops the top on his soda "You still mad he left you behind in zombies?" If you had ever played zombies with him, you would know to run the other way, which Jake didn't and was eaten by the ravening hordes for a dozen waves or so... humiliation? You bet, especialy when it's online.

"Oh that, bringing it up are you? No, i'm not... okay I still am, he was laughing about it for weeks!"

"Just a game, as Shane would say."

"Is that why he gets so pissed when somone starts a killing streak against him?"

"Yep and tha-" I get cut off by Kyle

"Waiter! Where's my drink?" I take a dr. pepper and hand it to Jake "Well waiter, don't keep the customer waiting." He mutters "shut up" but takes it to him, I grab a glass of water and head back to the couch, They had changed up to zombies, but that was only two player... wait a-

"What are you doing?" I ask as I sit between them.

"Payback..." Kyle says handing me his controller "Think sniping's going to help now?"

"No..." I hated the zombie maps, mostly because I ended up swarmed... "How about I sit this out? You and Kyle can go at it." I say as I pass the controller back to Kyle who takes it with a shrug. The round starts and I see the "Pentagon" map pop up... this was going to be bad. I set the glass down, not taking a drink from it as the round starts. It was a usual start up, buy a gun and just use the pistol until you ran out, then use the other gun. Soon wave ten pops up and I see Jake turn toward Kyle in the game, Kyle was camping at a door window, the other door across the hallway had zombies crawling out of it, I automaticly knew what he was going to do. A grenade rolls under Kyle and then explodes, it didn't hurt him, but he gets disoriented and zombies swarm him, by the time I look back to Kyle's screen he had already gotten into the elevator and ridden it down.

"What the hell man?" Was Kyle's reaction.

"Collateral damage, sorry."

"The he-" I would have listened in but I guessed this would happen, so I just grabbed my glass and took a long drink... and forget about the little "turn if you touch water" thing and choke as I feel the change start to occur... Imagine that your entire body locked up, and you were trying to force it to move, that was me trying to stay human, and it barely worked. I take heavy breaths as both my friends turn to me...

"Hey, you alright?" I shudder as I put the glass down "Yeah." In fact it wasn't, it was much harder to hold back than last time...

I look over to Kyle, who's eyes widen as make eye-contact "What?"

"Um, yeah... your eyes are purple." Uh oh... looks like everything didn't stay human. I think of something quick and close my eyes and rub my fingers across them, and try my hardest to turn my eyes back to normal. I look back to Kyle "Still there?" He just nods. Jake gets up and  says...

"I know you don't wear contacts Shane, what's going on?"

"I don't know." Part truth, part lie... I didn't know how they would react to me turning into a dragon infront of them, and I intended not to find out.
"Let me see." I stand and look him in the eye, his questioning look faded to a slight bit of suprise.

"Those are your real eyes... this is weird." I sit back down on the couch.

"You're telling me." I say as I sit on the couch.

"I AM telling you. This ever happen before?"

"No..." Another lie... great. "If it did I would have told you guys."

"I doubt that, people like to keep secrets man, having purple eyes is something even i wouldn't talk about."

Kyle starts chuckling and says "You know, this kinda reminds me of those Vladimi-"

"Uh, no. I'm not a vampire Kyle."

"Alright, just saying it reminded me of those books, purple eyes and all."

"All? Do I look pale? Do I burn in the sun?"

"Technicaly yes, we all get sunburned, and you are pale... to a point anyway." This was going in an odd direction, so I decide to change the subject, sadly I wasn't good at it.
"At least I'm not turning into anything." I say, and Kyle's eyes just keep the amused crinkle as he says "At least not yet anyways." I about cock my head to the side when he said it.

"And just what does that mean?" I hear Jake say.

"Well, he could just be turning slowly, tomarrow he could be a freaking werewolf or something."

Both me and Jake give him the "You're kidding me." stare and I say "You've been into the occult horror comics again haven't you?" Simply put, he loved that kind of stuff, unfortunately he gets kind of carried away with it sometimes...

"What? I'm not hurting anybody."

"And yet you carried a stake in your backpack for a year... and you almost stabbed me with it once!" Jake says with an unamused look on his face

"You shouldn't have sneaked up on me!" He says in his defence.

"Couldn't help it, when you someone acting as paranoid as you were you just have to scare em. How did you even get that skittish anyway? 'Cause I doubt just a movie or comic can drive you into fear of all that crap in reality."

"Hey! I was young, your vulnerable to that kind of stuff when your that young."

"And yet you got all up into it, internet searches, late nights up watching the  movies and such, and don't even get me started on the L-"

"ALRIGHT! You don't have to bring that up." That was a funny yet humiliatng story that happened to him involving him LARPing with other people... but how did this conversation go from purple eyes to a freaking occult discussion?

"Why are we talking about his occult obsession when I'm clearly not turning into any of that?" Jake says "Good point." While Kyle goes "Because I was suggesting that you might be turning into a-"

I cut him off with "Don't, say, monster."

"Well what do you want me to say? "Paranormal creature"?"

"That actually sounds better than monster, but still I don't see him turning into one, so please... please, just let it go."

"But his e-" A glare from Jake silences him before he lowers his head, dissapointed and says "Alright." in a tone layered with defeat.

"What I'm more concerned with is how it happened and if it's permenant."

I see Kyle raise his head, about to say something, but when he sees the look from Jake he lowers his head back down.

Jake sighs and says "It has to be the ciff, there's no other reason... but how can you change someone's eye color like this in only..."

We keep talking about it, me hating every lie or misdirection I had to put out, but I didn't want them to start thinking I was crazy if I started about the dragon stuff.
About an hour later I hear a car pull up into the driveway and honk the horn.

"Looks like our ride is here." And he dismantles his xbox setup and puts it back in the bag. The lying I had done today was starting to build up guilt, and my mind was urging me to ask them before they left... I keep fighting it until they are halfway to the door and I cave...

"Hey, before you go, how would you react if I did turn into something?" I felt the heat of embaressment crawl up my neck as I ask... what was I thinking? This was a bad idea.
Jake just gives me a blank stare for several seconds before saying "If you were the same person mentaly I wouldn't give a damn. I bet Kyle would try to get a picture of you."
"No i wouldn't!" he says, but he was always bad at lying. "I'd act about the same as Jake." Believe it or not it was just as much of a lie as the other one, Jake gives him a sideways look as they turn and go out the door. About a minute later I hear the car pull out of the driveway... only then do I realize that that familiar prickle of being watched was there, barely... but it was still there. I look and again find no-one. The feeling goes aaway after a few minutes but the chill of it made me shiver several times, I lay on the couch and turn the tv on. I don't even realize that I drift off to sleep.

---- 6:41 P.M.

I wake up as the front door opened, and Shane walks in carrying his laptop, a pissed look on his face... then I notice the bandage around his upper right forearm.

"What happened?"

"Stupid people, that's what. Relax, it's just a second-degree burn." He sets the laptop down on the coffee table... then he notices my eyes.

"Explain."

"Well, I think the human part isn't permanent. It's getting harder to hold back, and this is the result of the last time! I can't get it to go away!"

"Damn, figures." He notices the empty donut box. "God i hate deja vu."

"What?"

"Never told you this, but when i get deja vu, it means something is about to happen, usually i see it in a dream and end up remembering it when the feeling hits. That's why I wrote the note, i got te feeling made the note hoping you wouldn't turn infront of them... which brings me to the question, did you?"

"No, they just got the eyes."

He sighs and opens the laptop, brings up a screen as he moves it to his lap "Alright, give me the full details." I do and see him typing the entire time, eyes riveted to the keyboard... about halfway it clicks what he is doing.

"Are you making a story out of this!" I say and he looks up "Pretty much, already got the first part down and posted, and before you voice your objections Max, they won't know it was real, I changed your name, along with everyone except mine, and it's not like people are going to get up in a riot over a web-based story."

"You like doing this don't you?"

"It's a story, lasts longer than a movie, and can be more focused on certain people's entertainment. So yeah, I do."

I didn't like him doing it, but at least he isn't publicly showing me off, like youtube or something. I finish the recount and he saves the draft and shuts his laptop.

"Guess what tomarrow is?"

No... "Not a school day?"

"Nope it's the opposite. You're going to school kid." I hated when he cheerfully called me that.

"But you're going to send me in there with purple eyes!"

"And? You have the same human pupil, you don't have scales or wings right now, and i'm not about to keep you out of school when most people will think it's just contacts."
"But... fine, but what about the water thing?" He smirks and goes and grabs a dr.pepper out of the fridge, he pops the top and hands it to me "Drink it... and I'm serious about it."

I give it a questioning look before taking a sip, the tingling of the change started, but I was able to suppress it much easier than pure water.

"Problem solved." He shuts the tv off with the remote. "Now go take a shower."

I watch as he slumps his shoulders and heads off to the bathroom.  I just keep asking myself "What's next?" when I leave him alone. It was usualy something close to what I guess, but now? I wasn't sure that sending him to school was a good idea, but if I kept him home, people would ask questions... of course I could homeschool him, but he wouldn't like it, and neither would I, especialy since I wouldn't have enough time in the day to do it.
I move to get up and my burned arm bumps the coffee table and I almost hiss in pain... that guy's going to get his ass fired someday and I was going to laugh when he does, couldn't even use an cutting torch right... disgraceful.
I pick up the laptop and unlock my door, find the rifle on the chair and move that back to the gun case hidden in the closet, I plug the laptop onto the charger and head back out, this was going to be a short night, as I grab a soda out of the fridge and down it. Alright, now what to do? Oh wait, sleep. I head back to my room and shut the door before taking off my shoes shirt and socks before collapsing face-first on the bed... nothing like 'em, so comfy. I keep my mind blank until I finaly pass out into sleep's blissfull embrace.
The follow up to abyss is here.

Among the many things happening today, imagine what tomarrow could bring.
